What is your favorite method for quilting your quilt

It depends on the quilt. I will hand quilt when I'm going to be keeping this for a very long time. When I do wall hangings that is a good place to hand quilt, because I love the texture it gives the quilt when it is hanging. Besides it is easy to carry around with you, when you go on a road trip, etc. Machine quilting I do when I can handle it in my machine without going nuts. The checkbook quilting (I love that) is when the quilt is too large for me to handle. Or the quilting is not really going to show because of the design on the material. So I guess my answer is it all depends, on what the end use of the quilt will be and how big it is.
Makes sense to me Sue. I wonder if one way stands up best to use and washing. Has anyone found out if there is a difference? Do quilts that are more densely quilted stand up to use better or worse? This may help me make some decissions on mine that I haven't quilted.
I love the long arm quilting but don't have one. So when I quilt I like to machine stipple quilt. It provides an small overall quilt pattern and really shows up.
Hi Phyllis,
Do you, or anyone else here, have a sewing machine with a stitch regulator?
I must not have as I'm not sure what you mean by stitch regulator. I can set the speed of the stitching.
The "Stitch Regulator" Is what they have on some Bernina machines that help make your machine more like a longarm by knowing whether you have moved the fabric and gives you a more even stitch when you use it to quilt.
I definitely do not have it. I wish I did!!
I do, too! I bought my Bernina before it came out!
I have done flannel quilts that get alot of use with washing and being abused. Some I had long arm quilted and others I did my self. I don't think it makes any difference in how their were quilted, alot of alittle, they still wear out with the use. Which I love, because that means people are using it. and loving it The hand quilting I like the effect on the quilt, I think there is more texture. Hand quilted quilts do not get the heavy useage like the flannel so I have no idea what one will last longer.
The stitch Regulator I do not have and at one time wished I did. Now I am getting better at free motion so I think I just saved myself a lot of money . It would have to be my birthday gift for the rest of my life. Besides I love my machine.
Quilts I have used a lot, wore out on the binding edge first. That is probably normal. I concidered putting new binding on, but never did.
