Applique or Pieced

well that is a tough one
i enjoy both but i think appy is fun as i can think outside the box
i have just finished a year long swap that was appy themed
you picked out your background fabric and sent 11 of them out to the next person on the list
they make a block using your background fabric and your theme
they have a month to make the block and then they sign the journal that is with
your fabric and send it out to the next person on the list
when you get the quilt back you have 12 blocks from all over the world
i have 2 blocks from australia in mine and one from england and the rest are from all over the US and canada
it was alot of fun and made you think outside the box
from the normal and the blocks are so beautiful

Sounds like a round robin. The same idea as my row by row, but my row by row doesn't get mailed. It is brought to the guild meeting to be traded. How nice to have parts of your quilt be from all over the world!
I love a quilt that combines applique and piecing together in one quilt. However, I rarely do applique. I hope to do more in the future.
So far, I've only made pieced quilts, but I've tried a little applique and would like to do more. I enjoy doing handwork and having portable projects to work on, so I think applique is probably something I would enjoy if I really tried it. I appliqued some hearts on a sweatshirt, and it looked cute, but I've just never tried it for a whole quilt. I enjoy looking at both pieced and appliqued quilts. My friend and I have gone to several of the Road to California quilt shows, and some of the art quilts are really amazing!
Aren't quilt shows amazing Donna. I love looking at all the quilts. Some quilt in them are really out of this world!
It's always fun to go to the quilt shows and see what other people are doing. I'm always in awe of people who do the intricate hand quilting, and stipling, and trapunto work. Some of the machine quilting with the long-arm quilting machines and specialty threads is really amazing too. And of course it's always fun to shop and shop at the quilt shows!
I always do piece, if I do any applique it is fused with the button hole stitch that I do on my machine. I did try a small applique project, but never finished it. I guess if I am going to do any hand work, it would be the hand quilting. I really love doing that. Looking at applique quilts is my joy, they are great, and love seeing them. I guess there are only so many hours in a day, and applique is not getting into those hours. I most say, I will never say never.
Sue,
I enjoy doing the buttonhole stitch most, but sometimes the piece just shouts for stitching that you don't notice as much.
