Hudson River Valley Art Workshop / Quilting classes

www.artworkshops.com   This is a bed and breakfast that you can go for quilting classes. They also have art classes, etc. I went about 2 years ago, to take a class from Paula Nadelstern. It was great fun, the rooms and area are beautiful. A great room to have the class in, lots of light. This was the best place I ever took a class from. The food is out of this world, you will gain weight here. Fresh homemade cookies right from the oven for snack in the afternoon. This is near Albany, NY.

Quilting by the Lake - Quilting Classes

www.quiltingbythelake.com  This is a great place to let people know about classes that are going on around the country. I went to this Quilting by the Lake, which there is no lake, because they moved locations. There are alot of classes more on the arts then tradional. It is great and a lot of fun. You can go for 2 days or 2 weeks in the summer. I meet a lot of great people here and learned more than I could ever tell you about. This maybe something to look into.

THE origin of the domestic arts of all nations is shrouded in mystery. Since accurate dates cannot be obtained, traditional accounts must be accepted. The folklore of any country is always exceedingly interesting and generally has a few kernels of fact imbedded somewhere in its flowers of legend, although some of our most familiar household objects are not even mentioned by tradition. Spinning and weaving, however, are very generously treated in the mythology and folklore of all nations. Nearly every race has some legend in which claim is made to the discovery of these twin arts.

In the 1936 Presidential election, Americans reelected FDR to a second term. This quilt commemorates the President's landslide victory over his opponent, Republican Alfred M. Landon of Kansas. Embroidered on the stars are the names of the 48 states and the number of electoral votes each cast. The total number won by the President is embroidered in the center, while the number won by Landon appears in the bottom border, between the stars for the only two states that went Republican.

Finished a great book

in

I'm not a reader by any means, but my girlfriend gave me this book for my birthday. Thank you Sue! I loved it, for 2 days every minute I had was reading this. "The Art of Mending" by Elizabeth Berg. What a great job writting this book. It is really well writtenl about family life and how we deal with issues that come up. Some that we don't want to deal with.

Thank you, I'm learning so much

Help - any ideas how to put together as a quilt

P8180473.JPG

I think I may have a few more kaleidoscope & needle star blocks done, I'll look and then take those pictures. As you can see from the blocks that I have in my profile, that I have made several blocks. Now, how to get them in one quilt top? I don't want to put them in rolls with slashing. I will like to come up with something that also has symmetry or kaleidoscropes in them. When I get my cast off my foot this is the first project I would like to complete. Does anyone have any ideas?  I do have to get a picture of one more kaleidoscopes, that I have done. I would like any ideas. What I am thinking is to have the large kaleidoscopes in the center with the needles stars & smaller kaleidocopes around them. Making look like they are floating, with a great border of some kind. Any ideas?

Sewing area

This is my own area of my home. It is a room above the garage that my DH and I built. These photos are taken without the lights because the power was out at the time I took them. They show that the room has a lot of natural light on sunny days. There are two lazyboy chairs, a wood stove, television and stereo on the other side of the room. In the middle of the room is a pool table that doubles as a place to lay out my quilts. It is a very comfortable room that I can spend the entire day in when I get the urge to quilt. It even has a refrigerator, microwave and bathroom. It is my home away from home!

The best room in the house. My sewing room is in a walk-out basement that my husband finished after we moved in over 6 years ago. I got the area with the windows for alot of light. He made me a large flannel board to hold my work in progress on. The tables are inexpense office room furniture. We did buy the large sewing cabinet so I could machine quilt with alot of room. He built some of the other storage cabinets.
